Nina Floaty & Berry Ground
These are Nina Floaty & Berry Ground two foraminifera guiding and teaching kids about the oceans and the wonderful flora and fauna of the deep sea. Foraminifera are a deep-sea life form and hard to discern by the naked eye. They are very sensitive to physical and chemical environmental changes and therefore, are ideal indicators for paleoceanographic and paleoclimatic history of the Earth.
Nina & Berry are the two mascots of the children’s education program of ‘Advancing Knowledge on Methane in the Arctic’, www.akma-project.com and Ocean Senses. This project is endorsed by the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
More figures, books, games and other fun things will soon follow to bring this fascinating world closer to children and young people all over the world.
Stay tuned ;))

Berry Ground is based on the foraminifera species Melonis barleeanus which lives in or on the arctic ocean seafloor.

Nina Floaty is based on the foaminifera species Neogloboquadrina pachyderma, which floats in the ocean as a zooplancton.
