Nina Floaty & Berry Ground Character Development

These are Nina Floaty & Berry Ground two foraminifera guiding and teaching kids about the oceans and the wonderful flora and fauna of the deep sea. Foraminifera are a deep-sea life form and hard to discern by the naked eye. They are very sensitive to physical and chemical environmental changes and therefore, are ideal indicators for paleoceanographic and paleoclimatic history of the Earth.

Nina & Berry are the two mascots of the children’s education program of ‘Advancing Knowledge on Methane in the Arctic’, www.akma-project.com and Ocean Senses. This project is endorsed by the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Nina Floaty is based on the foaminifera species Neogloboquadrina pachyderma, which floats in the ocean as a zooplancton.

Berry Ground is based on the foraminifera species Melonis barleeanus which lives in or on the arctic ocean seafloor.

We have launched these two foraminifera ambassadors on an arctic cruise trip this year, on May 21th 2022 (read more here), and we are now developing books, games and other fun stuff to bring this fascinating world closer to kids and teenagers around the world.

Our stickers are already loved by everybody**

So stay tuned ;))
